The Outsider #30 – Round 13 review

Round 13: South Sydney 22 defeated Cronulla-Sutherland 14

The Outsider

This win has everyone talking, that’s five straight and to do it with four players missing due to State of Origin plus Alex Johnston out makes it even sweeter.

You can put the performance down to Anthony Seibold executing a game plan that constantly stretched Cronulla-Sutherland’s defence – we saw this through the ball shifting from right to left within their red zone and our big men running wider. It also shows that we have a list that is well balanced, committed with players will to put their hand up and come in to first grade when needed.

Robbie Farah is despised by the coach potatoes but surely he won a few over with that performance on Friday night. Everything that the media has portrayed about him seem to be nothing more than a beat up. Yes, he’s been playing for Fake Souths but we haven’t seen one dummy spit or any signs of undermining Damien Cook or the coaching staff. From all reports he’s been a great mentor to Cook and the younger players which is quite similar to the role that Lote Tuqiri had at Souths in 2014.

Adam Doueihi really did prove his versatility on Friday by slotting into the fullback role without a hiccup. You often find with school boy rugby union converts is that the backs can virtually play anywhere due to the nature of the game. It’s a lot different to rugby league where you are stuck on one edge.

Cameron Murray had a great game and is really making it hard for Anthony Seibold to keep him out of the starting 13. With Angus moving on surely we will see Sam playing full time on the right edge with Cameron at lock. Don’t be surprised if Cameron’s name is thrown around for NSW Origin next year. The NSW brains trust of Brad Fittler, Andrew Johns and Danny Buderus all have massive wraps on him.

Where to from here?

Having a weakened side that was able to dominate Cronulla-Sutherland for nearly the full 80.

The likes of Tyrell Fuimaono, Robbie Farah and Mark Nicholls coming in and doing their job.

Letting in a few late tries but that can be put down to a disruption in play due to the sin bin plus lacking a few big guns.Until then….
