Round 10: South Sydney versus St. George Illawarra
The season doesn’t get any easier as we face the competition leaders this week. The last time we faced St. George Illawarra they took us to school and that was only five weeks ago.
Check out the Rabbitohs team lineup.
The Outsider’s Fearless Five
Sam Burgess is back after another suspension and the coach potatoes will be out in force after their two week boycott of all things NRL. Well, they still seemed to tweet about every raised elbow in every game!Let’s hope that Sam isn’t in two minds and plays as hard as he always does. Returning from suspensions is sometimes like returning from injury – your confidence goes and you play in your shell.Sam is up against his old sparring partner James Graham. Jammer has a track record of getting under the skin of the Burgess clan so let’s hope that we are on the front foot and shut any niggle down.
This week it is indigenous round and we all know that the club has strong ties with the Indigenous community. The jersey that the players are wearing looks awesome and is special. Don’t be surprised if a few of our Indigenous players fire up and bag a few tries.
The Ren and Cody Show
Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker were at their best last week and the main contributing factor to this is when they run with the Steeden. The more opportunities we give these two the more likely we are going to be causing damage. Throw that in with some Damien Cook magic and we could be in for an afternoon of some brilliant attacking footy.
Robert Jennings suffered a hamstring injury during the week at training so Hymel Hunt comes in to replace him with Kyle Turner off to Fake Souths. Anthony Seibold has gone with size over versatility for the bench this week and it looks like that Adam Doueihi will sit this one out. The reason for this may be trying to fight fire with fire as St. George Illawarra have a strong pack which could take a lot of energy out of our pack.
The trial and Round 5 games against St. George Illawarra showed one thing, our edge defence is a liability and they are more than happy to exploit it. Reruns of Euan Aitken putting Greg Inglis on show have been all over the media this week and they’ve got him with one hand on the NSW Origin jersey. It will be interesting to see how Greg Inglis responds in defence and attack up against Aitken. We could be witnessing one of the best tangos for a long time.
The Outsider’s prediction
It’s going to be a tough contest and St. George Illawarra have shown this season that they are up for a fight and their 8-1 record speaks for itself. The game will be close and the first 20 minutes will be a blood bath as both engine rooms bash each other. The speed of Cook from dummy half and the hunger of our left side in attack may be the difference.
Wherever you’re watching the game, I hope you have a good one. I’ll be back after the game to give you my verdict.
