Round 5: South Sydney versus St. George-Illawarra
Last Friday’s win was bittersweet, we got the two points but lose Sam Burgess for the next two games. Sam’s suspension has got the Coach Potatoes and the punters up in arms, this could be a first that both groups of supporters agree on something.
This week we head to Jubilee Oval for the first time since 2012. For Adam Reynolds this will be a bit weird as the last time he played there it was his 11th NRL game. An NRL premiership and two NSW Origin appearances later Adam returns to play his 136th NRL game.
Check out the Rabbitohs team lineup.
The Outsider’s Fearless Five
There’s only one Adam Reynolds
Let’s hope that members of The Burrow read my posts as I’d like to make a song request. If Adam Reynolds’ kicking game is on song then I’d like to hear ‘There’s only one Adam Reynolds’ belted out a few times on the hill.
Seriously though, we miss Adam’s kicking game and goal kicking. It’s good to hear that he was held back a week and not rushed in for the game against Canterbury-Bankstown. I wonder if they’d of still made that decision if we had lost to Manly-Warringah?
We were lucky to win the Charity Shield and there’s no way that St. George-Illawarra will hand this Friday’s game to us. They are undefeated and full of self belief. Even though they are coming first and we are sitting in eight spot this game will be close and tight.
Dufty, Widdop, Hunt and McInnes, the Coach Potatoes favourite, are in fine form and are not afraid of throwing the ball around to get points. Throw in the likes of James Graham and you see what I mean.
The Burgess twins are finally aiming up this year and will need to take control this Friday if we are a chance to win. Sam Burgess is a massive loss and the void will need to be filled by the hard running brothers. Cameron Murray will need to work even harder to keep that middle defence tight.
Dane Gagai has been shifted to the right wing with Hymel Hunt moving into right centre. I didn’t see that one coming but is Seibold looking at getting strong kick return metres with Gagai playing as a floating fullback? It will be interesting to see how this positional switch pans out on Friday night.
With Sam Burgess out is raises the question for who will Seibold start and who will come in on the bench. I expect Mark Nicholls to start with someone like Jason Clark moving to the bench. Nicholls hasn’t disappointed this year and Clark is a great defender and team player, you won’t see anything flashy from Jason but he will never let you down.
How Seibold uses Adam Doueihi will be interesting. If we are struggling don’t be surprised if one of our play makers get hooked and Doueihi is thrown the keys to the car.
The Outsider’s prediction
It’s our first night game of the season so it will be interesting to see how we go compared to day time footy. St. George-Illawarra are no mugs so we need to be ready for what they throw at us. We are at a suburban ground so watch out for the crowd penalties. If we do win then I can’t see us winning by more than 8.
Wherever you’re watching the game, I hope you have a good one. I’ll be back after the game to give you my verdict.
